Advancer Tina · review
In space no one can hear you... s(c)ream. Advancer title certainly looks like it was a co-production with it's more western inspired character design and story. It has a somewhat exploitation vibe to it's plot who features nuns, revenge, space pirates and a lot of sexualized violence. The story is fleshed out with a focus on a dystopian science fiction setting that are reminiscent of Alien (1979). The animation is well done since action scenes with explosions, gunfights and spaceships to be expected in an Science fiction action story. Bodily movement aren't jarring and the use of still frames isn't common. While the erotic scenesare themselves a mixed bag since they are questionably erotic they seems to be more in line with the body horror genre. Fans of guro should be pleased, since this ventures far into gore combined with nudity.
Characters themselves are quite decent but it's the main character,Tina Owen and her famous voice actress (Atsuko Tanaka) that really steals the show! She delivers each line with a strong confidence that gives her much depth to how she is and handles herself. Not a damsel in the slightest but a strong woman that most likely is a nod to it's Ripley inspirations and overall themes of motherhood and assault. Which comes full circle in this ova.
Rest of the cast are a bunch of more similar body types. Men are broad shouldered, muscular and tough. Women are slender, tall and somewhat look the same in the chest area.
Backgrounds are nicely done and further gives the series a gritty and almost noir feel. Lots of strained greens, fog and dark colours, to give off a horror palette. It's a rotten world after all in which humanity is desperately searching for habitable space. So it has a post-apocalyptic feel, more akin to Fist of the North Star than Blade Runner.
It comes highly recommended to horror fans moreso than those who might expect pure erotica.
