Review of Kiss x Sis (TV)
How do you make it so incest doesn't seem like incest? Make them stepsisters of course, silly! And make them older than the boy! Done! So, you want an ecchi that pushes right to the edge of ecchi? Congrats. You found KissxSis, the strange story of sisters trying to find ways to be with their brother with some of the most awkward premises ever laid (pun not intended) out to get just that much closer to their dream. And I buy every minute of it. I'll be the first to say if you explained what was about to happen I'd wonder how that will ever be done soit actually works. The only real reason it does and why I can truly be okay with whatever weird plot I'm being fed...Ako and Riko are absolutely charming. That's it. I adore these sisters and truly their intentions are quite innocent (despite the premise). But overall, no matter what strange happens...there is a purity in how much they care for Keita. Their parents don't necessarily help the situation...but even with the parents and their silliness, you get a strong sense of a loving family bond, father and mother who deeply love each other and aren't plagued by taboo and other useless worries (leading to one of the funniest moments ever in an OVA) and a equally deep love for their kids like knowing the world will kind of work itself out, it doesn't matter if brother and sisters get together, with or without intervention it'll happen or it won't happen, there are more important things to worry about.
The main 12 episode series is quite sweet and doesn't really venture into dirty territory...they saved that for the OVAs which is an ongoing release (pun not intended). To truly accept the OVAs you need to have a thorough enjoyment of the series as a whole...some of my absolute favorite moments of the series comes from the OVAs.
Pros:
If you like your ecchi with an incest harem twist, this may be just right for you.
Cons:
If you like your ecchi with big boobs then this will disappoint. If any skin makes you scowl, then what are you watching ecchi for?
And I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but when things go a bit far...and you wish it just went a weeeee bit further...?...
