Lets start with the story. The story to the Monogatari series is one of the single best continuous stories ever put displayed on a screen. Even without heart racing action the Monogatari series still gives you an experience that makes you want more. Many people praise the art of the Monogatari series, but when it comes to Bakemonogatari I feel as if the artists are still finding there place. It also doesn't help that most of the series is still images and abstract visuals. All in all I think Bakemonogatari has the weakest visuals of the series. The sound design of Bakemonogatari is very repeatativeand bland. Its one of those series where the sound design never strikes me as anything to take note of at all, bad or good.
The characters are the story in the Monogatari series. Whether it be Araragi, Hanekawa, or Senjogohara, they all have distinct and deep personalities, motives, and stories. On first impression the characters look like nothing but old anime tropes, but once they open their mouths the true depth in every word they speak makes their conversations engaging.
Many people struggle to cope with the complete lack of action in Bakemonogatari, but I enjoyed watching these characters develop and change as they struggled with their own (literal) demons.
Overal I give Bakemonogatari an 7/10
