Review of Black Rock Shooter
There are many people in this world that can either fight pain, ignore it or get eaten whole by it. Those that can fight against it, have a different "me" in a different world. If that different "me" dies, all the pain is taken away, and the other "me" is deceased. .... Well I just gave you a summary of the plot in a nutshell. Black★Rock Shooter is an anime about a young girl; Kuroi Mato who lives a nice and peaceful life until she gets to Highschool and meets girl called Takanashi Yomi. Yomi is a quiet girl who has a lot of worries on herhead, trying to stay away from as many people as possible while Mato is a energetic and a bit weird person who wishes to see all the colours of this world. As Mato tries to become friends with Yomi, things start to get messy, to the point where everything falls down.
Now, Black★Rock Shooter is a short anime so going into too much details would only spoil a LOT of it. This is why this review might get short, but without anymore rambling, let's start:
So here is a short description of Story:
Story is a complicated one, especially at the beginning, but once you get to episode 8, everything will click into place and you will get it, if not then I would recommend either hitting me a message or reading it up.
The main plot is all about pain and how different people react differently to it.
That is sadly all I can say about the story without getting too deep into spoiler territory.
Visuals/sound track:
Art was....mediocre. The eye art style was amazing, animation was also good but the main thing that took the points away from it all, was the CGI animation. Now, I am a huge CGI nazi when it comes to anime (expect the very good ones) and I am a huge fan of hand drawn shows/movies. The CGI wasn't that much of the deal but my eyes couldn't focus as it was all in my face when it came to battles. I cannot give the score lower than 5 however, since it was still amazing CGI animation. If it would be terrible/badly made, I would've been forced to give it rank lower than 5. The ost of this anime was good, way more better than I was expecting to be honest. But the opening was sang by Hatsune Miku, Japanese computer singer known as "Vocaloid" and because of it, opening song didn't sound great. Her voice doesn't always fits and the fact that she sounds so robotic made it not very comfortable for my ears. If it would've been sang by a real person, I could've excused it. But this isn't a case in here and sadly it won't be. The Ost on it's own is great to listen to if you want to have some kick ass action or something a bit more peaceful.
Characters:
The characters here were....how should I put it? Filled with emotions. Although their designs are simple, I still loved how they were filled with hatred, selfishness, sadness and depression as well as joy, excitement and curiosity. This anime made me hate a character with a passion and this is something not many animes can do easily. The other "me" on the other hand were filled with aggression. I would love to talk more about the other "me" but that would be too much of a spoiler. Ok, as I said in my last review for "Kyoukai no Kanata"; " if you have characters, good or bad, with wonky character interaction I will be forced to point it out." And sadly, this is the area where I have to do so. The characters, although have strong emotions, don't really have great character interactions. The talks they have are unreal (in all anime if I should be honest) and the way the all act once everything starts to crumble is just insane. I would talk more about this; but as always, that would be slowly getting into spoiler territory. If you wish to see it for yourself, watch the anime.
Final verdict:
Black★Rock Shooter is a colourful yet dull anime. It takes you onto journey of emotions and their colours. It is describing everything in complicated way and it may be a bit confusing at times. However, once you will reach to the end, all the emotions that turned into black will open into a light blue sky and will give you a little food for thoughts. If you aren't really smart or you get things very slowly, I would suggest for you to skip this anime. But if you are easy with puzzles like this, go ahead and watch it.
I am so sorry that this review was so short, but so was the anime, so I cannot say anything more than this.
