I've watched this anime way back during the toonami days as a kid (8-9) and this anime must've left a impact on me because I started remembering this anime and decided to re-watch it (age 16 during the time I re-watch). Story - When it comes off telling a story it's a bit confusing at times and you really have to pay attention listening. I had to re-watch it 2 times (sub & dub) and it is still a iffy story. Anyways, the story takes place in a post-apocalyptic earth where humanity are living by a thread and anything robotic are corroding to a poisonlike substance called the ruin. Due to the ruin all robotic entities are looking for anyway to pro-long their lives from killing other robots for parts, killing human to drink their blood, or sometimes accepting their fates. In general robots fearing death as much as humans.

Art - The usual setting takes place in a dark gloomy rocky area with no sign of plant life whatsoever. The time where important scene does happens the tone of color does change into a bit more vibrant. Then there are amazing scenes that consist bright vibrant color using the watercolor art styles. The animation is really amazing and really didnt expect any less from madhouse.

Music/Sound - There are some really hit or miss soundtrack. A few of the soundtrack sounds dramatic and perfect while others are just boring. There is a scene where one of the character named janice sang a song from the sub version with better pronunciation and probably sounds better than the original. When it comes to picking over dubbed or subbed for this anime, both are amazing but I highly recommend trying out the dubbed. This is one of the few dub that when it comes to voice acting it fits perfectly and fluently.

Overall, this anime isn't a happy anime with a happy ending. It's depressing.
It's very drama related and you will have to pay attention to the story in order to know what's going on. When it comes to action there is some but as you continue you'll soon realize it's just casshern wailing on robots and not much new besides fighting the other main characters. If you are looking for a mature anime with a dark tones and very drama orientated story then you've found it.
