Review of Hyouka
Hyouka was a show I was initially hesitant to watch. I heard it was rather boring to the point where many people would say they fell asleep while watching it. But after watching it myself I find that very hard to believe. The story was very simple but it remained very interesting throughout the show . Including one of the best school festival arcs I have ever seen in anime. I'm not normally a fan of the mystery genre but I still had fun trying to solve the mysteries in my head while watching the characters try to solve it them self. This leads to one of the best things in Hyouka which would be its characters. The characters in Hyouka all give the impression that they could be real people. They all have unique flaws and strengths that lead to many interesting interactions between the characters. By the end of the story you also get to see some great character development. It was fun watching Chitanda become curious while Oreki gets convinced to solve whatever mystery she wants him to solve. The mysteries were varying in how interesting they were but even during the less interesting ones like Chitanda wondering why she got angry it was still fun to watch the characters interacting
Another strength of Hyouka is the visual mastery that Kyoani shows throughout the show. The consistently great camra angles, the sparkles in Chitanda's eyes, the cherry blossoms in the wind, the river, and the rain. Everything was animated so beautifully. I constantly enjoyed great detail in the art and the animation.
Overall I would recommend Hyouka to anyone who enjoys highly character driven shows.
