Compared to a lot of romance manga, I see this as one of the genuine few that actually do a good job at romance. It's not a cheap thrill and it is certainly not trying to pander towards a perverted audience. If someone asked me to compare Kumakura-san to Boku and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, I would say they are the same. Except for the length. I have mixed feelings on the length of this manga as it's only 14 chapters. One one hand the story is brimming with detail for only 14 chapters which I have to applaud the author for doingas it makes the manga feel a lot longer/bigger than it actually is, and on the other hand there is not enough chapters. There was definitely some more plots being made for future chapters but I assume they got scrapped due to the series being cut. (You can tell what I am talking about when you read it.) I also just wanted to see more.

Everyone has something that they want to gatekeep. For me this is one of those things that I want to gatekeep. It's such a nice manga that I can't help but want to keep it underground so it doesn't get tainted by the masses. But at the same time, I want to share it too. It feels like I am in my own relationship with this manga, like I will get jealous if I see it with other people. Oh well.

Overall, Kumakura-san to Boku is THE best romance manga I have read ever. Despite its 14 chapters, it delivers a well written story with no crazy shenanigans or twists. Just a story about two people coming to terms with each other and slowly falling for each other. Oh and the girl wears a bear mask which is definitely a highlight of the entire manga. I give this manga a Djungelskog out of 10 as I like bears.
