Review of Ping Pong the Animation
Although the plot started off as mediocre it gradually began its descent into below average. By the end of the show the plot became illogical and absurd. The shounen-esque approach of the plot was the downfall of the series as a whole. Also I enjoyed how they did the last episode although I didn't particularly like the plot the way they did the episode made was great. Story 4/10 The Animation was unique so I enjoyed that part of it but it didn't blow me away. Art 6/10 Smile is the typical "emotionless" character and Peco is the typical Shounen protagonist. Not much to be praised there. Kaiou academy playersand the trio of the elders in the show bring a sense of relief to the stereotypical main characters.
Character 7/10
The OP was the only thing memorable in the soundtrack, everything else was average at best.
Sound 7/10
I enjoyed the beginning of the series alot so I have to give it a 7 here because It still was enjoyable but just fell off towards the end
Enjoyment 7/10
Overall fairly disappointed in the anime given how well it started and the potential it had but at the end of the day I cant complain because it was still a decent anime.
Overall 7/10
Edit: Rewatched the anime a couple years later and enjoyed it more the second time. The story was still lackluster to me but the execution was good. The art is very unique and was great for animating ping pong even though there were hiccups somethimes. The sound was decent, the opening and ending being the stand outs. The supporting cast of characters re what make the show shine, kazama , kong, sanada etc are magnificient characters and smile and peco's character development were great. I liked how the show concluded but dont like the result of the interstate tournament. Probably why I can never even think aboutgiving this show a 10
