Review of A Place Further Than The Universe
Oh man, this was a fantastic anime. Definitely a favorite of mine now. If possible, I urge you to read as little as possible and just experience it for yourself. Hands down, the strongest feature of this anime was the characters. The synergy and complexity of characters is similar to, possibly even surpassing K-On! and Hisone to Maso-tan. Every action anyone does has a reason behind it, and everyone has a reason for helping each other. The friendship these four girls have, while new, feels incredibly strong and is super entertaining to watch. As for the story; it's great. If something can make me root for thecharacters to achieve their goal, or feel despair when a roadblock comes up, it's doing what it does with great effect. Not much anime can get me emotional, but this was one of them.
The art style is successfully unique and cozy, without straying so far outside the realm of what we're used to with anime. Some studios will strive to make their show look unique, but end up just making their anime look "off", and force the viewer to adjust to an abnormal style. I have a hard time putting this feeling into words, so in short, I'll just say this: it looks good.
Nothing about the sound or music is particularly memorable a month or so after finishing this anime and now writing a review, besides the music being somewhat generic. I can't say I dislike anything about the sound or music, it's just ok and conveys what it needs to convey for any given scene.
Overall, this was an amazing ride to be on. I'm writing this review more for my own documentation and enjoyment rather than a recommendation, but if you're reading this while considering to watch this, just watch it. Don't take my word for the quality of this anime, just experience it for yourself.
