Review of Sword Art Online

Interesting idea, but not exactly 'executed' properly. The premise of fighting in a MMORPG-ish enviroment is absolutely fantastic. A lot of interesting storylines can be made from the same. That being said, does this anime deliver on such a promise ? Unfortunately no. The story is mostly kind of mediocre, with occasional cringe moments. There are characters taking sub-optimal decisions in the anime, some of which sound extremely stupid, like dealing with Asuna in the game world instead of real life. As for character development, its kind of average, doesn't strike anything remarkable. Also, as in my reviews, does it have ONE element which should compel me towatch it, and still enjoy ? Again a resounding NO. It mostly seemed like a cheap way to kill time.

That being said, is it bad ? I doubt it. I prefer keeping a high standard to call it 'bad'. But yeah,

Also, I can see the reason of its popularity. I haven't read the light novel, but the premise is absolutely fantastic - its possible to have cool merch and stuff based on it. An actual game based on SAO idea can be created as well. Honestly, I love the idea. I just believe that in this particular case, SAO was ruined by lazy storytelling and use of cliche. I believe a 6 is a fair score.
