Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Bit of a rollercoaster, since the first few eps are good, the middle part is borderline unbearable at times and the last few eps are nice. Really hated the usual tropes like huge misunderstandings and keeping secrets from each other that prolongs the story in an artificial way, these got really annoying in the middle of the series that is already pretty short with 10 eps + 1 OVA. I'd say it's easy to get attached to the 2 MCs and the side characters fulfill their (not so meaningful) purpose. But it's very striking that the MCs are unrealistic in a sense that they're being soldas shy gamers, one of them is even a neet, yet they're visualized like Mr. and Mrs. Charming. Morioka is the bigger offender ot the two, she's being misrepresented big time, the usual pretty and shy anime girl given a personal traits of a socially anxious neet. Either way it's very common for animes to make unrealistic MCs that people can relate to and feel good about themselves, so this anime is just one of many offenders. If we look past their obvious misrepresentation then I'd say they're okay.
Netjuu no Susume leans more towards romance, but the comedy tag is justified, it's not exceptionally funny but it's good enough, just don't expect too much if you're in it for the comedy.
Even with the OVA this anime lacks a proper ending, but I'm not so bitter about it because things get sorted out in the end and the MCs are on track, the rest can be left to our imagination. Turns out the manga got axed because of the writer's health condition, so that's the reason for it, but it doesn't feel unfinished despite not having an ending set in stone.
All in all it's a short, sweet romance anime but with some notable issues. It's still a good watch, just don't expect a life changing experience.
