Looking over the reviews I've found people either adore this film or are almost offended by it's existance. I watched the film in half an hour chunks, and if you don't, you may get bored, giving myself little breaks allowed me to be fully focused and connected with the film the whole way through really making my experience all the better. In a classic Studio Ghibli fashion the film gets better as you watch more of it, leaving you fulfilled by the time you finish, but I will admit, the start is slow. It's no secret Myazaki grew up during the second world war, evidence ofthis is littered throughout all of his works, and they almost seem incomplete without them. The Wind Rises is the development of the life of a real engineer during the second world war, a combination of what Miyazaki has made apparent to be his favourite elements all coming into play. It's the middle ground for Studio Ghibli - still brilliant as ever, not revolutionary. It's comfortable, and a solid example of an artist mastering his craft.
