Review of Chainsaw Man
This anime of chainsaw man, which covers not much from the manga, manages to make a cinematic adaptation that maintains the quality of those chapters of the manga and adds up to it an interesting quality: Dread, tension. Though it sacrifices the style of the manga and the quirky humorous style of the presentation, it more than makes up for it by making the buildup to the finale of the season not just tense but also impactful in a dreadful way, highlighting the seriousness of the supernatural threat that the devils and stakes present in a way that the manga does not in tone (notthat this makes the manga any less inferior or the anime superior, just that they have their own unique great quality), even if it obviously doesnt cut the humorous moments of the story. The plot is obviously great, the premise of why denji does what he does and the the whole charming nature of the action mixed with the subtle emotional tension in the backdrop is very engaging, but not entering in detail on that here. All in all, it is impressive what this anime adaptation managed to do with so little, which passes by very quickly in the manga (especially since fujimoto´s works overall are fast and simple to read in regards to panneling and pacing, which he is great at since his balance of art and dialogue is top notch) and makes a season that greatly expands on this tense aspect of the story that the manga can have when approached not just cinematically but also when stripped of the most notorious aspect of the tone and art; the cgi usage is not bad at all, still looks good and far from ugly, it makes a good usage of it compared to the usual. Wont expand on the fact that the content of it itself is hella good, always engaging just like the manga while adding its own flavor of suspense tension, fun bloody action. A great recomendation that also works perfectly as an introduction to create interest for the manga.
