Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
I'm gonna make this brief cuz I'm not good at writing reviews. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a great show. It's story is stellar, it's fun to read, and think about. The action scenes were badass, and sometimes heartbreaking. However what compels me more about this show is how beautifully, and bluntly, it illustrates how depression and trauma motivate and change ones behavior and actions. Lets use Asuka as our example. Asuka's childhood was anything but happy. Her mother was hospitalized, for reasons I forget at this moment, but it left her somewhat empty. She would spend her time inthe hospital talking to a doll, as if it were Asuka. This made Asuka hungry for attention from her mother. She'd do anything to get her mom to notice. Then when she got something she was so excited for, something she was sure her mother would've loved to hear, a little Asuka had walked in on the hanging body of her mother. The thing that she wanted to show her mother was that she was offered to pilot an Eva. Now years later, all she wants is to be noticed, adored and admired. She wants the attention she never got from her mother. She'll do anything she can to get that attention.
Almost all of the main cast have stories that motivate their actions.
Also like cool giant robots, that aren't actually, but giant genetic recreations of humans with metal armor fight giant aliens, go brrrr, and wait is that robot Shinjis mom
