Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
When man's life spans barely five decades (if he's lucky), he is forced to choose what he does with his time wisely. Watching Neon Genesis Evangelion is not one of them. Supposedly the entire point of this show was to deal with the different characters' experience of loneliness and depression, though some would argue that there need not be a distinction between the two. No character ever truly gets out of their nihilistic worldview, because ultimately they have divorced themselves from any theology whatsoever, which is quite ironic because the entire series features countless of symbols representing the cross on which Christ was crucified. For instance, instead of praying to God, Shinji talks to hysterical women who should be quiet and obedient.
The countless amount of psuedo-philosophy made me wonder if this is actually what the contemplative part of the Japanese brain comes up with. If this is so, then I am truly grieved in my heart that this mindless and nihilistic philosophy inspired by malignant demons has taken such a strong hold of the Japanese soul.
