Review of Fairy Tail
Fairy Tail, one of anime's latest additions to the shounen genre which the largest part of the community loves and drew many newcomers towards anime. It is an anime - like most long running shounens which have gained a huge fan-base throughout its time running. I just wanted to express my opinions regarding the show via this review. Story - 6/10 This is the most lacking part of the series. Everything about the story has been done before. No part of the story is unique and you will have a constant feeling of nostalgia if you have ever watched any shounen before. Every arc is unoriginal anddoesn't do much other than build the protagonists character. The longer you watch the series the more it will feel as if you have seen the same arc before only with different antagonists.
Art - 8/10
Not much to say about Fairy Tail's art. It has surprisingly high production values for a series with a total running length of 175 episodes. The fight scenes are fluent and well animated. Characters design is colorful and some characters have a unique appearance, mostly to fit the characters personality. World-building is really well done, even though most of the first season plays of within Fiore.
Sound - 9/10
Fairy Tail has some of the best music the anime genre has to offer. The openings and endings are memorable and the OST is a beast. The soundtrack works extremely well in setting the atmosphere for a scene and Fairy Tail makes excellent use thereof.
Characters - 7/10
Oh how I would like to give this an higher rating. Let me start with the good regarding Fairy Tail's characters: The Protagonists. What Fairy Tail lacks in the story division it makes up for in memorable protagonists. Many of Fairy Tail's arc's are dedicated to character building which in turn leads to well written protagonists. These are the type of characters you grow up with and those you wish to succeed in the end. Simply put, they are characters you can relate to. Now on to the less memorable antagonists: Where Fairy Tail succeeds in creating excellent protagonist, the antagonists of the series are extremely lacking. No antagonist in the series has any character trait more advanced other than the fact that they are evil. One dimensional is an excellent word to describe them as most of their motivations are as sensible as jumping into a volcano.
Enjoyment - 9/10
As much as I find wrong with the series, I just can't help loving it. Fairy Tail - as lacking as the story may be - is an roller coaster ride from start to finish in which you can see the familial bonds between the members of Fairy Tail improve, as well as seeing your favorite characters grow as warriors and people. Listening to the outstanding soundtrack is a true joy while watching Natsu and company beat those who oppose their friendship. Fairy Tail is pretty hard not to enjoy.
Overall - 8/10
If you are currently looking for something that has an mediocre story, awesome characters, an epic and heartfelt soundtrack and above average art: Fairy Tail is for you. This show will without a doubt take you back to the days of your childhood, giving of a sense of nostalgia which is always welcome.
