I feel this is a tribute to 80s action films, because that's what I'm reminded of. Balls to the wall adrenaline, cheesy one-liners and a bullet to the face, eye candy thrown in the bowl for plenty of flavor. And in this story, the eye candy is the one kicking all the ass. Cut off shorts and Berettas akimbo, Revy is the type of female character I always fall for, even if she is a pack a day smoker. She can outgun anybody in the South China Sea and talk trash the whole time. Rock is definitely a sociopath, or at leastwe watch him become one as the series unfolds. From throwing a perfectly good rifle at an attack helicopter to convincing the other bad guys to kill each other, that's one hell of a character development. Is Brad Swaile typecast into these roles I wonder?

Supporting characters are pretty interesting too, from the CIA operative nun, the crime boss who isn't Chow Yun Fat, and Balalaika aka the coldest thing to survive the Russian-Afghanistan war. And lest we forget, the psycho Columbian revolutionary disguised as a maid. ("Dutch, I know what I want for Christmas")

You're going to like Black Lagoon, you're going to have fun, you're going to hijack a PT boat and become a mercenary...okay maybe not, but this show makes that option sound AWESOME. Grab a beer, light a gun powder scented candle, and hang the f*** on, you're going for a ride.
