Review of School Days
When I think about School Days, I think about my memories of high school when I would walk across the hall and how I would hang out with others in lunch time. Not anymore. Not ever since watching this series, where everything just went straight to hell. Literally. Story 10/10 The title is quite deceiving, I wish they would add Horror & Psychological into the genre tag because it fits both genre's pretty well. Though it may not have the monster/demon aspect to it, the psychological part of this series is why it is so horrifyingly disturbing. Makoto Iko is a simple high school student, justlike everyone else, and has a crush on a beautiful girl while also having a good friendship with another friend. Though he eventually develops this relationship, his other friend (who happens to be a girl) falls for him as well, though it just doesn't end there..
Art 10/10
The art in this series was EXTREMELY GOOD. And there were even points when the art set the mood of some of the most disturbing scenes I have ever seen of students. I believe the Art was a huge factor when it came to those psychological experiences because it set the tone for a large part of the series. There were never lively colors during serious scenes, and the color of the sky even set the tone as well. Excellent.
Sound 9/10
Oh God. The music, was just disturbingly good. It was as if I was watching a horror movie with suspense while on the edge of my seat. Though I still wanted to know what was going to happen, the music just set the tone and made the horrifying scenes all the more disturbing and creepy in essence. The ending theme music even set the tone as well.
Character 10/10
When I first started watching this series, I thought to myself, "Oh great another guy who is just loved by every girl". But this wasn't just the case. Makoto is probably one of the most disgusting characters, and strangely even with his personality, girls were able to fall for him. He had a trait not a lot of main "hero" characters had which was selfishness, where as typically in SCHOOL Harems, the male character would be polite, selfless, and friendly. Makoto was the complete opposite, which made his character much more appealing than it needed to be. The two girl characters also played an extreme that I never expected, especially the girl that Makoto fell for in the train. The extremities were unbelievable in these main characters and there was a point where even I thought I couldn't finish this series anymore.
Enjoyment 9/10
I was going to give this a 1 or a 2 until I saw the caption of each rating. This anime was far from a dreadful or pathetic anime, but it was absolutely awful in a sense of a memory you just cant leave behind. I did enjoy this anime though, as it kept me to the edge of my seat while waiting for the main character to hopefully die. I was impressed with how this series turned out. Completely unexpected, and still gives me the creeps sometimes...
Overall 10/10
Yes, I'm giving this series, a 10. As much as I absolutely hate watching horror/psychological, whereas this anime fit both moods, it surprised in a good way. I was surprised especially on how the story came out and it ended in the strangest and weirdest ways that I wish I could just throw away in memory for the rest of my life. I did find it enjoyable though. For those of you who love Horror/Psychological/School/HowLoveTurnsToShit, this one is for you. If not, well... you heard it here first. Goodluck..
Thanks for reading!
