Review of Gintama

Name: Gintama Studio: Sunrise Seasons: 3 and some movies. 300+ episodes Genres: Samurai, Science, comedy, fantasy, shounen . So, let's begin with the story. In the ancient land of the rising sun... Some aliens comes in, conquers it and ban samurais. And now our main character i.e. nose picking poverty stricken samurai Sakata Gintoki (also the former White deamon/Shiro yasha and one of the 4 Gods of Joui war.) works at odd jobs and tries to earn money with his friends; Kagura and 4 eyes.(Noragami reference r8? Well w8 because there are more.) But that's not it. The story have more to it. The anime is filled withcomedy and action. But when the feels hit... It hits like a train. Especially in season 2. What’s more amazing is that the anime brings in comedic scene in serious battle without breaking the flow of the battle. If that's not enough then let me tell you one more thing... It’s also a parody of all shounen anime. From one piece to bleach, Dbz... Every shounen anime is included.
But the story is not only about comedy. Each of the main character have a dark and painful past which is revealed with the flow of time. The fact that people who suffered through hell when gathers together they are able to laugh and enjoy all together makes it amazing. When someone laugh, the other will laugh even louder with hearts content. . When someone cries everyone is there to listen to him and take a share of their burden. When one is angry or loses track the others will be there to punch him back to right path. When someone is alone and need a path, the others will be there for him that’s how amazing every character is. One’s pain is everyone's pain, ones sadness is everyone's sadness, when one breaks a law to protect something dear to you, others will back you up. That's how good the characters are. But that's not all as there are also action packed bloody fights. Let's not forget about the top-notch animation in fights. For example in a 6 min battle (Benizakura arc... Gintoki and Katsura vs...) , Gintoki started with a sword and ends it with a sword. But in between that he used spear, daggers, blades ... etc. And you need to watch very closely to realize it. But that's not all... well I am not going to spoil it for you so, no more about this fight. However, not only this every fight is epic and made with extreme care and efficiency. While s1 might have slow development but from s2 the story starts pacing and becomes serious. And from ep 300 the real fun starts as well as the feels trip T^T.
They also handled side characters nicely. S1 takes long time for establishing the side characters along with some main characters (which includes there past) and that's why main arcs took time to start. While you may feel story isn't pacing at all but every episode counts (with a few exceptions).
They prepare the heroes in such a way that you will love them, laugh at them, and make fun of them while the villains are made in such a way that at the beginning you will hate them deeply but at the end you will love them equally. Let's not forget about the plot twist. For me the biggest twist was in ep 314. The anime is completely different from others. You will never find a second anime which resembles this one closely. It’s truly a masterpiece. And if you aren't used to TG, HOTD Hellsign Ultimate, Drifters or such anime... don't watch it while eating because you don't want your puke on your own plate, do you? And you can skip episode 1 and 2 as they are fillers.

Overall: 9.6/10.
I recommend this to everyone. You should watch it.
