Review of Durarara!!

Durarara!!, is, without a doubt, the best anime I have ever seen in a long time. Riding on the coattails of Baccano!, Durarara!! takes place in present-day Ikebukuro, full of street gangs, paranormal entities, and many other quirky characters. However, the best character of all, has to be the city of Ikebukuro itself. Always brimming with unpredictability, even the most mundane of days is flipped on its head when you least expect it. The show itself is one-part character study, one-part paranormal thriller, and one-part romance. About an estranged individual finding comfort in a new enviornment, and ongoing turf war, a shadowy individual, and several others, thereis so much that got me intrigued.
And while I myself usually dislikes romance in general, many of the intinmate relationships between some of the cast actually got my attention, and at times, rather endearing.
Another thing to point out is for a show that likes to keep going and never seems to let up, is how very little action there is, mainly focused on dialogue-related conflicts. But when the action DOES kick in, it looks absolutely fantastic.

As for the animation, it's absolutely stellar. This being from the character designer from Baccano, it comes to no surprise that many of the characters do look similar (we even get a little Issac and Miria cameo), and there are a TON of attractive character models.
And yes, I willingly freely admit that the guys look hot in this anime.....coming from a straight man.

Anyways, on to the sound; The soundtrack for this anime is amazing, from the OP songs, to the background music, and the ED sings, Durarara!! is a treat to the ears.
The voice acting is pretty good, too. This is an anime where I'd gladly watch both subbed AND dubbed. They really knocked it out of the park with this one.

Overall, I find Durarara!! to be a phenomenal anime series, and one of my absolute favorites of all-time. And with the X2 series, my love for it extends even further.
Whether you're a casual or hardcore anime fan, Durarara!! is an anime I would highly recommend.
