Bakemonononongatari....... "Don't stutter when you say my name." Ook... fine.. Alas, this show has everything that an actual intelligent person would consider good: 1: A beautiful art direction (and no, i don't just mean character design). This includes great composition, amazing colors, interesting slide-show concepts, interesting use of real life objects, etc. These are all molded together into a masterpiece known as "Bakemonogatari."2: A fabulous story that would make any grown man shed tears.

3: An actual love subplot that isn't complete shit. The interaction between the 2 characters, who i wont mention for spoiler reasons, was really unexpected, but worked out greatly, which you will understand shortly.

4: A brilliant cast of characters that any intelligent person would not get bored with.

One of my favorite things about this show is how there may only be like 1 or 2 characters in each episode (sometimes more, obviously). These character could be sitting on a bench, or walking through an empty city, just talking. A lot of people say that this is "boring," but i say that those people have no flare for art and do not understand the importance of dialogue. The dialogue in Bakemonogatari is very witty and should be paid attention to as much as the beautiful art. It absolutely grinds me up when someone says "that show is boring, i dropped it." Don't be one of those plebeians. Please!!!

Anyway, those are just some basic reasons as to why Bakemonogatari is a literature masterpiece, obviously there are many others, but you will have to tackle that MONSTER yourself.
