I went into watching Escaflowne with great skepticism. A fantasy mecha that delivers a powerful punch from beginning to a strange but satsifying ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the unique mecha designs and great animation value. I recommend even those who don't like a little romance in their anime to still watch this wonderful treasure. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Vaan and Fulken, in my opinion one of the best sibling rivalries i have ever seen.
