Review of Devilman: Crybaby
Animation: It's extremely fluid, but the consistency is 0. It's all crooked and distorted, that does not make the animation bad, but it's something that bothers me a lot, I prefer something more consistent and standardized. I usually get away from the animes of this director because of this animation (which is his fault). note 5/10. Direction: Very good, knows how to use the OST well, is very good at the feelings of each scene and is creative. I do not really like the director's style of art, but I admit that the guy is very good at directing. note 9/10. Script: Oscillating, the beginning and middle of the anime are quiterepetitive (it can be summarized in Sex and Death) and half episodes, the story begins to really engage in the final stretch, with several interesting conflicts and outcomes. The message that the anime goes through is not very original (that humans are shit, I've seen this in several anime), I know that manga was something new, but I see it NOW, and now it's not so innovative.
note 7/10.
Soundtrack:
is "OK", does his role well and combines well with the work, but it is only for that.
Highlight the Main Theme, which I liked a lot, I even downloaded.
note 7/10.
Entertainment:
Very good, despite having found the beginning and middle of the anime repetitive, I could not get sick, the parts of action were very exciting and cool, and the other scenes were also very good. The final stretch I marathoned so much that I was immersed in history and wanted to know what was going to happen next.
note 9/10.
Conclusion:
Devilman is a great work of action, although it has been rushed, has been well compacted and certainly works as great entertainment. The story is good, not bad, but also not a MasterPiece, a great direction, an "ok" soundtrack and a very selective animation (which in my personal taste, did not beat).
I recommend to anyone who likes action and do not bother too much with distorted animation or heavy scenes of sex and death.
Final note 7/10.
