Review of Ping Pong the Animation
idk if its only because i just finished watching the last episode, but ive been watching this anime slowly enough that i can be sure im not giving it such a high rating based purely on my feeling right after watching it :P i went into this like "ah i heard the animation is outstanding and beautiful, i guess its worth a shot" bc i dont watch sport anime, i have never seen the appeal and i dont like watching sports so why would i wanna watch a sport anime right..? Well ....... this is so much more ping pong the animation is seemingly about ping pongbut under the facade of "sport anime" you get a beautiful story with lovable characters and touching moments.. ive cried too many times while watching this anime during moments im not even sure i was supposed to cry in
this is a story about well... life, and what i really loved about it is that its not trying to be dramatic or special or extraordinary or anything like that. you have tsukimoto and hoshino - two extraordinary table tennis players, but their environment, their life, everything else about them is just normal. theyre human and i love that
the way all the characters are drawn is much more realistic than average anime, and doesnt make the characters especially attractive. its not trying to make anything look pretty -- until they start playing table tennis
the animation and movements are AMAZING and i enjoyed watching the matches for the animation alone, except theres so much more depth to every match, it means so much more than just table tennis, each character has their own struggles and expectations from themselves - and it really made me see myself in them, in their one-of-a-kind personalities despite their ordinary lifestyle, in their mistakes and desicions.
the last thing i want to say about the story is .. its about friendship, more than anything. it starts off with friendship and ends with friendship, its about friends helping each other out, making each other smile, pushing each other to the limit when no one else would and at the end just being there for each other
its so well crafted, every single episode, and it makes you stick your eyes to the screen out of fear of missing anything...!!!!! its the best anime ive watched in a really long time and as i moved thru the episodes i knew i had to add it to my favorites because frankly ive never seen animation like that in Any other anime !
