Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero
This show is a pathetic attempt at capturing the success many modern Isekai have experienced within the last decade following SAO's popularization of the genre back in 2012. If you enjoy half baked fantasy elements that follow genre tropes to a T, a mediocre inconsistent story with jarring pacing and twists that anyone above the age of 10 who has seen a Disney movie could predict, and some of the least compelling and interesting, worst written and executed characters in all of anime, this is the show for you. The only praises I can give to the show are for the stellar artwork and animationof the series, as well as some elements of attack sound design. This show is the definition of lowest common denominator, does nothing to improve the already bloated and over-saturated genre of Isekai, and I sincerely hope that it does not find success in its upcoming second and third seasons for the sake of the medium, though considering the ridiculous popularity of the show in 2019, I doubt that to be the case.
