Review of Dorohedoro

I liked it overall but there are things that kept me from loving it. I'll start with the pros. The animation is top tier. The art style is unique, the gore is aplenty, and it all looks phenomenal. The characters are great especially their relationships with one another. Kaiman and Nikaido are clearly the protagonists but the show does a good job at making you like and empathize with Shin, Noi and the rest of their crew. The Humans are the good guys and Magic Users or Sorcerers are the bad but as the show progresses the line becomes more blurred except with En; himbeing the main antagonist. I love that I like the "bad guys" just as much if not more than the good.

Now on to what I didn't enjoy about this show. My main gripe is that the stakes become lower as the show goes on. You start to realize this as characters lose limbs and heads with no consequence. Even side characters will lose arms and get beaten to a pulp only to be perfectly fine the very next scene. I understand it's due to magic but it kills any sense of our characters being in any real danger. The show also starts very strong then meanders in the middle and ends pretty anticlimactically. I would've loved a 26 episode season to flesh out the rules and lore of this world more. Despite the gripes I'll be looking forward to future seasons of this show.
