Review of Ao-chan Can't Study!
Alright, I have to get this off my chest. I just finished binge-watching "Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai" and I'm honestly shocked that more people aren't obsessed with this. I saw the score on here and was a little hesitant, but I'm SO glad I gave it a shot because it's an absolute riot from start to finish. The story itself is just perfect for a comedy. You have Ao-chan, who is desperately trying to focus on her studies to get into a good university, but her brain has been completely warped by her erotica-novelist dad. When she develops a crush on the mostwholesome guy ever, Kijima, her mind goes into overdrive, turning every single normal interaction into something totally scandalous. It's so funny and just gets more hilarious as she digs herself into deeper and deeper holes of misunderstanding.
What really makes this anime shine, though, is the production. The animation is super bright and expressive, which is exactly what a show like this needs. The visual gags and, most importantly, Ao-chan's PEAK facial expressions are brought to life perfectly. You can literally feel her soul leaving her body in every scene. And the voice acting? The VAs were amazing! Ao-chan's voice actress absolutely nailed the panicked internal monologues and sudden outbursts. You could hear the sheer desperation in her voice, and it made everything ten times funnier.
If you've read the manga, you'll be happy to know that the anime is a really great adaptation. It follows the source material really well, so you get to see all your favorite chaotic moments fully animated and voiced, which is awesome. The show also wraps up with a great ending that feels super rewarding and sweet after all the craziness. It doesn’t just end abruptly; it gives you a really nice sense of closure.
Honestly, this show does not deserve the low rating it has at all. It's a hilarious, well-made, and surprisingly wholesome rom-com. If you're looking for something that's easy to watch (the episodes are short!) and will genuinely make you laugh out loud, please give this a try. Don't let the score fool you! It's an easy 9/10 from me. It's a total hidden gem.
