Lazarus, unfortunately, deserves all the criticism it is getting. Even though both Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop would both probably make my 3x3, Lazarus is a significantly worse show. Even as a Kamasi Washington fan, I was fairly unimpressed with the music and the production overall. The characters feel like they were written by AI - they have no depth and their backstories are only introduced when it's convenient, an indicator of lazy writing. There's hardly any development among any of them, and a lot of important characteristics they have feel overly convenient. The story is rushed and honestly, even the concept itself isn't particularlyintriguing. You would think, given that the entire world is supposed to be ending, that there would be way more chaos built into the world, but everyone just continues living as usual. There's so many characters and somehow all of them feel like side characters. On top of that, it's not really a show you can watch just for the vibes or for the production. The identity is Lazarus is incredibly weak. It tries to balance being a superhero show, a dystopian cyberpunk show, a battle shonan, and even a romance, and unfortunately fails at doing anything well. The fight scenes are fine, but I think many anime do it better. It was an incredibly disappointing watch that I can hardly recommend to other viewers.
