Romance isn’t my default go-to, and yet I struggle to find reasons to not call this my favorite anime. I feel like from the outside it’s hard for me to explain what makes it so special, but I don’t wanna leave it at a cop out answer so I’ll try. The general idea everyone can understand from a quick search is that “Love is War” is about two madly-in-love student council members who would rather scheme and mastermind to ridiculous ends to make their “opponent” confess first, than confess first themselves, even though they’re both pretty aware the other reciprocates their feelings. But it doesn’t leave itsideas behind. The seemingly one-off gags and short lived plot lines stay, and they mean something as the episodes continue on.

And I can’t claim that that’s a special trait of this anime, that’s simply good writing. But that’s just it- it’s good writing and great characters.

Pardon the maybe odd analogy, but-

The bottom line is it’s like a perfect cake recipe.
Great characters, Great Jokes, Great narrative development and pacing.

The setting isn’t particularly interesting, but it isn’t meant to be. It’s about the characters and it doesn’t try to change that.

If you want flashy you won’t get it here (outside a few jokes and imaginary scenarios) but this cake doesn’t have flashy.
Some other cake does.
And as far as I can tell- this cake tastes literally perfect the way it is
