Spoiler warning

This review may discuss plot details.

For starters I don't usually write reviews about manga nor read reviews. This story has a spot in my heart because of the themes it tackles that are close to my personal experience. Im just going to talk about Vol. 5 Cover for this review because it displays the MC with a girl (introduce later in the manga) laughing. It's simple but as you go through volumes 1-4 you start to understand why its unsettling and how depending on how you interpret it can show you two different sides of what the story conveys. To a degree the MC is a punished hero.... now hear meout. My views on Suicide are a double edge sword and thats why i love this manga so much. To reach a point of wanting to let go of your life several thoughts go through your head and tests what you value. One side of the Double Edge Sword is that Suicide is viewed selfishly because despite leaving this world the people around you still suffer over your departure (Its a horrifying Domino Effect). The other edge is that suicide is very selfless. No one in life can dictate what pain, obstacles, hardships, relationships or limits is enough for you. "If you cant live for you the please live for me." is one of the most selfish lines a suicidal person can hear. That's telling someone their life is not there own which further sharpens the blade.

Back on Vol. 5 Cover I also perceive it as laughing at your own suicide because of the hardships you yourself couldn't fight through. The laugh is a relief of understanding whats done is done wether its regretful or not you cant help but rethink "its over." Some fear an end. Some long for it. Some are comforted that there is an end. I look at this cover with chills down my spine because the relief of the MC the character is experiencing from the unexpected consequences he had to deal with after thinking it was all over.

What the story does beautifully is that the MC has reached their limit and commits to the act but gets punished for wanting relief. Your life may be yours but the impact on others is more than you alone (wether its good or bad). Having the MC have to save people who loved/hated/despised/jealous of/regretted/inspired from you so you can have an "after life" is such a brutal and heart wrenching way to make you learn and regret your choices that its beautiful.

As someone who has failed, and still struggles with suicidal tendencies it was inspiring. I have reread it multiple times and it's still just as impactful and inspiring as it was for my first read. My review is dark and doesn't speak much on the BEAUTIFUL artwork or WONDERFUL story telling because those were truth be told the added bonuses for me. The themes and how it was handled helped me cope with my own depression and suicidal tendencies. A truly beautiful story that left a huge impact on my life that left me feeling compelled to write about it after rereading it again. It may not affect you the same, suicide is a hard subject to understand so the takeaways can be indifferent. Nonetheless this will always remain a very special story to me. Thank you for reading
