Lilith 2 · review

Lilith (1 and 2) is what I'd consider a pioneer for the GL manhwa scene (prior to newer (and somewhat questionable, sloppier) releases such as Bad Thinking Diary) even with a plot that has been recycled many times before, it still felt very unique at the beginning due to its BDSM presence. I won't hold this to high expectations (as it is a smut focused manhwa) but man did Jaehee have me pulling out my hair at sometimes. However, I don't know what started happening mid way, as all traces of good writing displayed in part 1 was thrown away completely. Throughout the story wesee Jaehee continuously emancipating over Huilin (despite being with Sulhwa) and we are kicked in the guts with the constant flashback scenes of the two, paired together with Sulhwa's insufferable personality. One scene that made me go WTF was Sulhwa telling Jaehee the safe word was 'Zhu Huilin' (???). Eventually the story had to keep butchering Huilin's character, using any excuse to make her the villain in the story. Huilin is constantly demonised but the actions of Sulhwa and Jaehee (which the story/author always forgave) was not addressed at all, except with the one panel 'sorry' at times.
As for the side stories, despite the controversial premise of Young (Teacher) X Gyeowool (Ex-Student) I think it was pretty OK as they actually communicated and consented (rare!).
Overall, my rating for this is still in the higher numbers as I genuinely enjoyed some parts of the early game and as reparations to Huilin, a character doomed by the narrative. If you are into discombobulated smutty stories I would give this a read, but do check TWs beforehand and disconnect your brain from your CNS.
