Welcome to the Outcast's Restaurant · review
Welcome to the Cheap Restaurant of Outcasts! is a manga that has no right to be this good. Reading the synopsis, you probably wondered if this is a ripoff of Rising of the Shield Hero, and while there are some overlaps, including being "betrayed" and kicked out of a party, buying a slave girl companion, etc. Cheap Restaurant is actually fun to read. The overarching plot is not too deep, but if you want to have a lighthearted escape into some adventurers eating Japanese diner food and becoming friends, this is fine to spend a morning or afternoon on. The MC is OP, but it'sfine because he actually rather just be a chef. There are moments of total hilarity including when he tries to rescue others but conceal his identity... with a paper bag over his head. Also when he finally unlocks his unique ult, you will have to laugh.
I've just started the second arc, and it looks like the MC is going to get sucked into some politics and delivering messages via food. If the food messages are even half as well thought out as Nobunaga no Chef, I will be in heaven.
As a gourmet manga, it doesn't focus very deeply on the food preparation, but the food is usually drawn well enough to keep your interest, although it's not god-tier delicious looking like some other gourmet manga.
Trigger Warnings/Ecchi: There is an attempted rape (not by the MC) early on around Chapter 2 and a couple of nude but censored scenes including a food reaction shot (a la Food Wars) and bathing scenes (about 80% female, 20% male). There's also a bikini warrior type, but the chef constant is asking her to wear normal armor, so it's a bit lampshaded.
