So I can't give the most accurate review of this because the only version I could find is Japanese with Korean subtitles. But it's narrated by a man and he does a great job putting the emotion and tension into his storytelling, that even though I don't understand what's being said, I have a general understanding of what's going on. The animation is what you'd expect for 1981,my only real issue with it was how often they reused cells for still shots of the lady with the messed up face. But, it's obviously someone's low budget project, so they did good with what theyhad. In terms of the story, it's very similar to the original, but with some slight differences. Face lady kills herself intentionally instead of accidentally, and the married chick gets killed by the main guy cause he hallucinates face lady's ghost as his wife. In the original story I think it said the wife convinced him to kill her, and he discovered she was actually his sister. The main character is a grade A piece of shit and deserves his frigid death at the end, imho. So no, the characters weren't likeable, and no, they didn't have any substance, but for a 45 minute film it's pretty damn good. I'd recommend it I suppose, and I'd definitely watch it again if someone subs it with english
