Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Though it is sometimes difficult to follow through with an episode due to the show's slow pacing, the lack of movement is intentional in depicting the little change that goes about the lives of the six main characters in which each living person's life and mentality has been heavily affected by the death of childhood friend Menma (Meiko Honma), regardless of his/her (initial) disposition toward her. The characterization is stellar as every character finally confronts his/her own mistakes and regrets about Menma's death while learning to accept the repercussions and, eventually, move on. All in all (despite Menma's irritating presence in the first seven episodes),this is an emotional masterpiece featuring original art and realistic relationships between the characters that makes me want to stop and just indulge in the constant quiet tension. After all, actions speak more than words.
