Review of Samurai Champloo
Samurai Champloo (2004) Episode 23 is absolutely hilarious for one. The ending is just so hard-hitting and realistic I cannot even describe how I felt at that moment. The opening music is an absolute banger. The story is a journey, each episode is part of the wider story, and each episode shows you a bit more about the characters to a point that you feel you really know them and if you saw them you would be like old friends. The art whilst old for 2023 looks perfect for this show, it is brutal, it is hand drawn, and it is beautiful. It honestly suits theshow's narrative, not all shows would suit this style but this show it did. If you want to watch an older show now, this would be a great example.
The soundtrack is amazing, I love it, it really reminds me of the sort of music I like in the opening and also sounds great for its age. The voices are great and serious whilst also being hilarious. Episode 23 is funny for the voices as well as what happens.
The overall take on this for me is I loved the show. Some episodes weren't the best but in the grand scheme the story was awesome, the sound was great and the characters were just so real. Especially since the show feels like the end of an era. The ending of the entire thing really ends it, an OVA set in the future would have been nice but at the same time, it is a hard hitter that really nails it. I just didn't expect it to happen like that. I am so happy and yet so sad.
For me, this is a 10/10. 2004 this was one of your masterpieces. I hope it is never redone because it would never do it justice to this quality.
