Review of Ghost Hunt
I do not understand why I had this, I just watched it because I didn't know what else to watch and it was short. It was a pleasant surprise from past me and I'm grateful. It's an anime that greatly references various horror elements, such as ghosts, but uses real world terms and religious practices throughout the show with fairly great accuracy. If you're one of those people that loves the subject, this is an excellent choice for an anime. One of its greatest drawbacks, however, is it's very episodic meaning you're not getting an epic of a story-line, just mild character development with some "drama"here in there that didn't have to happen but you forgive it since the two main characters have a weird chemistry. Because the drama didn't have to happen but does (poor communication that didn't need to happen), you sometimes find yourself rolling your eyes.
Each "investigation" consists of about three episodes approximately that have them investigate/study, attempt to explore now stakes increase, then they solve it. It's a consistent format that doesn't get stale since they have a lot to explore and experiment with. However, characters feel unrealistic making mistakes that don't seem human (you HOW many times had problems because you were alone??? Why are you alone AGAIN???). There is some body counts that felt avoidable, they tried to explain and justify it but it felt backwards how they came to some of their conclusions ("they must stay even though their life is in danger because it might be poltergeist and stuff").
Overall, the anime seemed unique and refreshing, and it's better than a lot of paranormal shows even outside of anime. I do recommend it for those that like paranormal stuff, just don't expect it to be scary or something.
