Review of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
If you look closely into the eyes of Napoleon Bonaparte's famous portrait on the horse, what is it that you see? Was it determination? Arrogance? Bloodlust? Or is it melancholy? The eye of an emperor is more complex than that. What we see in history is flatlined, and all we can do is guess. What kind of person was Napoleon? Did he enjoy the tyrannical ruling or the triumph of France? How did he overcome the struggle and guilt? He was barely French and more on the line of Italian. Was he in it for the power? Was it for justice? We may never know.Code Geass may not offer an answer that I was looking for, but it gave me a glimpse into the truth and expanded my imagination and fascination of what is it that motivates a human. What is it that changes a human? What is it that makes a hero? It is a complicated yet straightforward series that follows the story of Lelouch whose character is delved into in-depth and was challenged. It is an amazing classic that puts a lot of emphasis on the development of a legendary character arguably one of the most interesting characters in the history of anime. The show is best to describe as a thrilling rollercoaster of surprising events and emotions that has a ton of cliffhangers that will keep most viewers entertained throughout. I do have one complaint which is the arch-enemy of original anime --- pacing. But it is not a big issue of the series, some parts are kind of confusing and a bit hurried, however, it won't stop you from enjoying the show. Even if you don't care about mecha, If you are a sucker for plot and interesting characters, Code Geass is an awesome series, it has 2 seasons 25 episodes each. Season 1 is 9/10 and Season 2 10/10 for me. It is highly regarded in the anime community, so not just my opinion but also a lot of others too.
