Review of School Days

What struck me most about School Days is the imperfection of its characters. Unlike the classic anime heroes who strive to find the best solution for everyone, here the protagonists make selfish and often disastrous decisions, not bad for the story, but rather excellent narrative choices that are catastrophic for themselves. They evolve in a mix of greed and selfishness that makes them both despicable and deeply human. They are "jerks," but also victims of circumstances and their own flaws. The story stands out for its tragic nature: we follow a protagonist obsessed with his desires, who ends up being brutally confronted with the consequences ofhis actions. This downfall, amplified by unexpected twists, provides a striking contrast to the lighter or more heroic narratives found in other works.
The ending is incredibly psychologically intense, even shocking, but strangely coherent with the tone of the story. It is not meant to make us have a "good time," but rather to tell a poignant, raw, and uncompromising tragedy.

School Days is not an anime that is easily forgotten. Its boldness in exploring the darker sides of human psychology and relationships makes it unique, even if this approach may not appeal to everyone. It is this ability to unsettle, shock, and tell something profound that justifies my high rating.
