Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Nagatoro-san was a pleasant surprise. You see, I hate the character archetype of abusive tsunderes. Taiga from Toradora, Louise from Zero no Tsukaima, shit like that is just a huge turn-off and the annoyingness of the characters simply ruins the whole series. So, I was kinda expecting something like that. Turns out, this series is surprisingly wholesome. The teasing isn’t overdone and stays just like that – a teasing between two teenagers interested in each others, creating a more believable romantic setting compared to mc falling with love in girl who just beats him. What’s more, even though the protagonist is more on the passive side,he’s not a dumb oblivious protagonist like that of harems. His interest in ero is definitely there, as much as he tries to not let it out.
Nagatoro, on the other hand, is strong with offense and dishes out (admittedly amusing) teasing, but weak in defense. This is important as it creates the whole chemistry – a protagonist who is not completely passive and a love interest that is weak to being teasing herself, resulting in situations when tables are turned and it’s super effective, creating a more “equal” position between the “couple”.
