Review of Horimiya

Horimiya is a show that is good, if you empathize with the characters, find them cute and funny, feel romantically excited for its character pairings, and think that the art and animation is good since it was produced by CloverWorks. If you find yourself average in romance (like you find yourself excited in many couple pairings), then ‘try’ this show. Its story is average which is like many other romantic stories. Nothing new to offer in the genre of romance and it follows a common pattern of story. However, it is not bad as well since the show isn’t entirely boring. Animation and art styleis straightforward and nothing special; just good and better than average. Sound themes and effects weren’t bothersome and the opening and ending themes are good.

If you haven’t realized yet, the name of the show is ‘Horimiya’ which refers to the two main characters of the story, Hori and Miyamura. And if you haven’t guessed, they will be a couple in the future. The naming is basic as it is, and we can already expect that they will be a couple in the future. It may seem like the story is obvious and uninteresting; however, if you are going to watch it regardless, then you might enjoy how they live their lives until the develop a romantic relationship. Additionally, you may find some dialogues and interactions funny especially the relationship between characters other than the two.

Overall, the show is not bad. It is good for me because I appreciate its animation and characters. I’m a twintail person and I found a character in it to be cute, so I like the anime. From how I understand the show, the main attraction would be its characters. Comedy can be tolerable, and the story is as basic as it can get. So if any of these criteria don’t meet your expectations especially when the characters are not interesting in your eyes, then don’t watch it.
