Review of Horimiya

6/10

First review ever, so I hope I don't commit a war crime while talking about this show. Also, I don't believe I would be able to produce a objective review (and i think no one can) about any series, so this will be my subjective reflections about what I experienced. SO, did I like Horimiya? Answer: Ehhhh.... But before I focus on the 6 categories let me make one thing clear: Horimiya would have been a strong 8 if it ended right after ep6, sadly the last 6-7 eps are well worthy of a 4 (and i am being generous) but i'll talk more about it ina second.

Art: 8
No problems here, the art and animation look cool, CloverWorks here did a nice job representing the characters' personalities even through their appearance.

Sound: 6
Nothing memorable, it's ok.

Character: 6
The characters are kinda interesting, some of them change during the story due to the upcoming events, the only problem is that IMO there are a lot of them for merely 13 eps: just as I felt invested in 2 characters, next ep the focus changed to other 2 characters... The first time is ok, the second time is still ok, but the third time is annoying.

Enjoyment: 4
As i said i enjoyed the first part of the season, but the second part bored me, A LOT. But why is that??? Because of the...

Story: 3
I don't know what's wrong with Cloverworks, but it seems like they always lose the second part of their scripts and then they decide in roughly 10 minutes what will happen in the last part of the season: it happened with Horimiya, imo it also happened in Wonder Egg Priority and in The Promis... oh no that was terrible from start to finish.
Anyway, in the first part the MCs are bonding and their relationship reaches a peak in the 6-7 ep, a nice and heartwarming journey in the love story of two, at first glance, simple yet complex characters... and then? Nothing, zero, nada. Yes, we have some development in the secondary characters' arcs, but nothing big or incredibly interesting.
Also, the fantastic fan service degeneracy that affects Hori in the last episodes? Useless and annoying.

The potential was there, but Horimiya is half the show it could have been, and that is sad.
Overall: 5
