Review of The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil

This supposed romantic comedy is all over the place, resulting in failure on every front. The story attempts to focus, as is often the case in romcoms, on the slow emotional development of the protagonists. However any romantic tension that manages to build up, is soon undermined by misplaced and haphazard yet somehow bland comedy. Thus, the series fails as a romcom. There is an overarching story, but it lacks the development needed to engage the viewer, so the series also fails as a compelling narrative. The only source of tension relies on frequently misleading the viewer into believing something that turns out not to betrue, which quickly becomes another source of annoyance.

These faults are complemented by rather generic, characterless, and cheap visuals. There are occasional dynamic scenes, but since the anime is not truly story-driven, they feel meaningless in the end.

Overall, it's hard to find any redeeming qualities in this series.
