I've only read the first few chapters of this spinoff, but I feel compelled to write a review solely because the only other review of this manga really doesn't do it justice - in fact, I find the user to be extremely unfair and overly negative, perhaps out of some sort of nostalgia poisoning. I mean, the characters in the original series, much as I love them, were as flat as cardboard, and the story was held together by bubblegum and duct tape. Please be serious. ANYWAYS. I bought this manga out of curiosity, because I'm a huge Saint Seiya fan, and the concept seemed interesting. Ifyou're looking for a story set in the same universe as the original series, you're not going to find it here - there's a lot of differences, but it keeps the same core concepts - it's refreshing, once you get used to all the new faces! The first chapters start out with a bang (literally), before flashing back and building up towards the inciting incident.

One unique thing about this spinoff is that we get to see so much of the perspective of the Underworld characters and their lives, feelings, stories... it helps to humanize them and make it more believable that Sanctuary and the Underworld COULD be cordial towards one another.

I can't say I'm enjoying it quite as much as The Lost Canvas, and there are things to be said about it being set in high school for a decent portion of its run, BUT - I think the series provides a good amount of character interaction and LEVITY that the original series unfortunately lacked. The manga is already playing around with so many interesting ideas regarding alternate timelines, misunderstandings, and potentially even peace between Specters and Saints...

Plus, there are plenty of mysteries that have been set up through the first few chapters that I'm sure will pay off.

I'm excited to read more, and I think if you enjoyed TLC and don't mind reading about dopey teens, then you might enjoy this one too.

I'll try and update this once I'm farther along!
