Virgin Punk: Clockwork Girl · review
Spoiler warning
This review may discuss plot details.
The idea of a predator removing a woman’s brain and placing it into a indestructable robot version of her 14 year old self is terrifying. It’s a shame that the premise is used more for exploitative sexualization than trying to say something. Having seen Kite and Mezzo Forte, this should come as no surprise. When the director isn’t leering, Umetsu delivers visually-arresting action spectacle. Smoke effects, explosions and gunfights are lovingly animated with a degree of detail and attention to choreography rarely seen in current anime productions. It’s hard to reccomend Virgin Punk to a casual anime fan. However, if viewers can stomach theuncomfortable gaze of the short, they will be treated to excellent action sequences and top-shelf genre schlock.
