Negative Yuusha to Maou-gun Kanbu · review
[More info about my review style can be found on my profile] ▶Summary and recommendation: ----------------------------------------------------------------- This is yet another one of the many manga that has been cropping up that are essentially just about a cute girl being doted on or doing cute stuff. This is very similar to but not as good as the manga [Sleeping Princess]. I recommend this only to people who enjoys stories like that. It does not have much to offer that Sleepy princess does not do better other than blushing girls in pretty clothing. ▶Story: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The premise, which is established in the very first 3 pages, is by far thebest part of the entire manga.
A depressed and mentally unstable 12 year old girl is the hero that has been sent by the humans to defeat the demon lord. Feeling bad for the young girl, the demon lord takes her in (almost) as his daughter.
The rest of the manga (as of chapter 34) is just the demon lord and his minions doting on the adopted girl. There is no deeper story. No confrontation against the humans and the manga never tries to address the mental traumas the protagonist was obviously suffering from in the first chapter. Depending on what you want from this story, that might not be a bad thing.
▶Characters: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The characters are all standard anime tropes (often in maid outfits), and the demon's character design seem to be heavily inspired by Elias from [The Ancient Magus' Bride].
▶Artwork: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The art is your normal run of the mill manga style, but it does have some good character design and outfits.
I feel I should mention that it fortunately does not sexualize the 12 year old girl or other characters, but there are some slightly perverse situations used for humour.
