April Showers Bring May Flowers · review
This is also another one of school life series that is published as a seinen work, and I can understand why. Aside from Tabata's unconventional look (one that's unchanged throughout the series, thank you so much), the story also looks at everything with a mature, grounded, thoughtful lens. Aside from one oneexshota (yet-to-be) relationship that feels a bit too close for comfort, most of the relationships are wholesome yet grounded, thoughtful of the many issues between the characters yet capable of maintaining the fluffy mood you'd expect in a romance. Just like similar ensemble stories, the characters are mostly where this story shines. They are all verydifferent both in looks and in personality, and yet everyone gets mingle well with each other without losing what makes them unique. The interactions are solid and well-meaning, and common miscommunication tropes are either absent or diluted so as to cause least drama.
And the main romance is cute and sweet. I enjoy that the story acknowledges the gap between their appearance and takes it seriously, but at the same time the story never milks that issue for drama at least during most of their relationship. Tabata rarely gets the push to change when it comes to her appearance, and I very much appreciate that.
