Review of Sword Art Online

Either this anime, or our world has aged like a fine wine. Its not phenomenal, but i consider it a very good classic today. Its mostly a chill anime, with a fire start and some really intense fighting moments (of course, if you dont invest yourself into the story, you cant enjoy any media. it would be a you problem) Maybe its because the story was not as real in 2012 as it is today, or maybe becuase the isekai genre has not taken off yet, but when this anime came out it was not recieved as well as it should have. After re-watching it, i noticeda lot of small details that did not grab my attention before. Even if i was in a bad mood, i would not rate this lower than seven.

After reconsidering some things, i realised its not about what it is, but about what it could have been, and to be fair, if this anime was re-made today, it would be a 10. And here is my argument to that: I cant rate it lower than 7, because i have decent imagination. It doesnt matter that the story skips over 2/3 of the whole death game, they could have made 2 seasons of filler just about whatever Kirito was doing, but they didnt, and thats why i like it. They could have made the whole second part of the first season take 3 more seasons, but they didnt, because everyone would hate that even more. And i like it for that. The story elements feelt more urgent because it was shorter. Yeah, it could have been better, but so could be literally anything (not just anime).

This anime is not bad, people just say it is, because it could have been better. If you dont expect it to be a 10 then you will not think its bad.
