Have you ever watched an anime that disturbed you? You know, like one that made you feel sick, like you could barely keep watching? I can think of at least one. Devilman Crybaby. When I watched the first few episodes of Devilman Crybaby, I felt nauseous. The imagery of Devilman Crybaby is visceral and obscene. There would often be two people having sex, only for one of them to turn into a demon and bite his partner's head off. The grotesque body horror and ridiculous amount of gore wasn't necessarily scary, but it did make me feel sick. A lot of people think Crybaby isjust a horrible anime with nothing to offer, and in an alternate timeline, I might have agreed with them. Even though I initially dropped it, there was some sort of intrigue that pulled me back in. And what I got was actually a beautiful story of humanity. Even though we're trapped in a cycle of violence, mankind has the capacity to love and change, and once we find to power to do so, it's just a matter of passing the baton.
