Review of The Ancient Magus' Bride
Mahoutsukai no Yome is quite an impressive anime. Not only does it have great animation and beautiful ost, it manages to combine these two things with a clearly unique story and interesting worldbuilding. The anime also has some really impressive parts where it chooses to forgo conversation/narration and instead tells the story using solely music and animation. The story overall is quite good and pretty interesting. Even though most of the developments feel ad hoc, there is a long term goal that the story will move toward. Maybe even better than the story is the worldbuilding. With the anime being set in England the worldbuildingis quite different from what you see in more standard fantasy anime that take place in Japan.
The art style used in the anime suits the worldbuilding and location very well. It works great for portraying England and the cool elements introduced with the story. The art also does a good job portraying the scarier story elements. The music in the anime goes very well with the art style and is just good overall. You can listen to the first 30 seconds of the main theme on youtube to get a sample of how the music will feel.
The characters in the anime are very detailed and interesting. You could argue that the entire anime is about character development and a great amount of attention is spent properly portraying the characters and having them develop which is enjoyable to watch. Overall the anime does a good job at most things and is definitely worth watching.
