Review of Amnesia
My first review and I feel compelled to do it for Amnesia. I feel like it's not getting enough credit. It really isn't bad! It wasn't just a girl trying to pick between a swarm of boys, it had a story to it. A good one! One that keeps you thinking. I know people tend to not like being confused when they watch a show, but I find it better then your usual predictable romance. Story: 6 The story could have been taken a lot further then it went. I don't think 12 episodes is enough for a strong storyline as well as characterdevelopment for all characters. But considering how short the series is, it did a fairly good job.It had a lot more going for it then your typical shojo anime. The story was fascinating and really kept you guessing throughout the whole thing. Though at some points one could get a bit lost in what's happening. I really enjoyed how it wasn't just a romance and the concept of visiting all the different timelines/worlds/universes or whatever one could go through. Though it's far from outstanding, It could have been much better developed, but it is good.
Art: 9
The art was the best thing about the show. It was absolutely stunning. a bit colorful, but who doesn't love a colorful bishonen with gorgeous eyes? The character designs were fantastic, I even liked the little card suit theme they had going on.
Sound: 5
It was okay I suppose. Nothing outstanding about the music. Typical shojo mood music to go along with the sparkly plot.
Characters: 6
Considering this was based off of a dating game, which usually does have overused sterotypes of characters. (i.e= The cool tsundere, The pretty boy, The smart guy, and The childhood friend) The characters, for the most part, were pretty solid. They took stereotypes and sort of added a little sprinkle of uniqueness into them. (Take Toma for example)
Though the male characters were deliciously bishonen, our poor heroine is sadly a very sorry excuse for a main character. In some ways it's very excusable, considering she has Amnesia and doesn't know who she is, therefor has no real personality to begin with. But some things I couldn't take. Such as her submissiveness, naivety and overly-trusting personality. Amnesia is no excuse for not having a backbone. I really wish they made her stronger of a gal instead of someone who is relying on the men around her and the kindness of some little fairy boy.
